U.S. Special massively armored car shopping




- The commander of U.S. special operations are expected to buy vehicles covered a total of 1,401 new armored car program GMV (ground mobility vehicle).
 Defense News report said the GMV will replace the HMMWV (wheeled vehicles have high maneuverability) Humvee or Hummer.
The company potential bidders may include General Dynamics, AM General and Navistar International. Under the plan, the provision of car will be done within 7 years. In the FY 2014 budget, the U.S. had planned to buy 101 units totaling $ 24.7 billion.

Conditions set out the tender new armored vehicles not exceeding 3,175 kg heavy, capable of carrying 8 people and can be transported by Chinook helicopter M/CH-47.
GMV is the armored cars were developed based on the U.S. model HMMWV to use for the task force. Design requirements GMV mainly based on the lessons learned from Desert Storm campaign in Iraq in 1991.
The key characteristic of GMV including heavy suspension, larger wheels, more powerful engine, capable of hoisting the other vehicle with a maximum weight of up to 1,905 kg and equipped with navigation system GPS.

Vehicles can be equipped with various weapons such as 12.7mm M2 machine gun, 7.62 mm M240 machine guns, grenade launchers and 40 mm MK19/MK47, the 5.56 mm machine gun and M249 SAW even anti-tank guns.
Operating range of up to nearly 450 km GMV help the task force can penetrate deep into the battlefield or enemy territory. The model is composed GMV-S, GMV-R, GMV-N,-T GMV, GMV-SD, GMV-ST, GMV-M.

From April 6/2012, the High Command of the U.S. special operations proposed GMV version 1.1. Other than the above sample, GMV 1.1 to lighter, faster and more easily transported by air, sea and land. GMV 1.1 should be equipped with computing and communication generation. It is expected that the name of the winning bidder to provide new armored vehicles will be announced next May.
Earlier, on 5/4, the High Command of the U.S. special campaign announced plans to buy new cars ITV model with the ability to transport by V-22 Osprey aircraft.
