Prepare for race cars leading Le Mans 2013, Audi has developed a range of new technologies on the R8 e-tron model as electronic mirrors eliminate blind spots, more integrated steering wheel controls ...

Due to the participants after the Le Mans race car is the engine compartment should not be used inside rearview mirror as usual. Thus, a small rearview camera Audi mounted on the roof will collect the following image with wide angle 60 degrees and then transmitted to screens installed in the cockpit. This screen uses technology diode active matrix organic (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting), high-contrast 10 times but consumes 30% less energy than LCD screens.

The advantage of this system than by conventional mirrors have a clear image, no vibration at high speeds, the car side blind spot is completely removed. So when passing other cars, racers can easily recognize the turn lane as well as accurately identify the enemy approaching from either side. Reportedly, Audi is testing the system mirrors on the Audi R8 e-tron e and promises applications in civil vehicles in the near future.
