Great Wonders Great Rift Valley rift ~ travel

The great period of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa created by the imposing volcanic mountains, separated by barren wasteland and the lake is bottomless.

Stretching over 5,000 km south from Ethiopia to Mozambique, the Great Rift Valley was formed 35 million years ago and continues to grow. It is called the great rift valley as a result of the collision between the elements in the ground creating a large fissures in the Earth's surface.

About 35 million years ago, at a depth of 3,200 km underground in today's Ethiopia country, near the molten center of the Earth, temperatures and pressures have pushed a very hot liquid rock slowly rising ground. The presence of loose rocks made to 1.600km long laceration on the ground and alter the topography of a large area.

Mountains abandoned in Southeast Africa (horizontal Ethiopia) - Eritrean or Danakil desert basins in the ruins left after the ancient movements. At this place, the Earth's crust stretched out to make up much ground sunk to 150m below sea level. In particular, in the Danakil basin basin is the hottest place in the world while the wind can not blow cool air in and can not escape.

After creating cracks, powerful earthquake has created a chain of volcanoes, the land separating the ocean. Under the scorching heat, the water gradually evaporated and formed the Afar desert and salt. This is also where humans to exploit salt during the year 2000.
