- In the future GM will accelerate the development and production of electric cars. Currently, GM is planning to develop electric vehicles for Opel marks based on the Chevrolet Volt.GM said: Opel, the European branch of the company General Motors will produce electric vehicle similar to the version model Volt, which the company prepared to hit the market in late 2010.
"As fuel economy and driving problems is an important ecological in Europe and in North America, so we decided to pave the way for the Volt in North America by the Opel version of the Volt in 2011, "Demant said.
Although the version of the Opel will share some features of the Volt, but this version will have its own design. The car may have designs similar to the previous version to achieve aerodynamic efficiency. "But it is not a dining car", Demant said.
Opel, General Motors representatives, will develop infrastructure in Europe to come to the assembly of the vehicle. Although the range of the Volt can be extended by a gasoline engine, which General Motors is targeting to the daily driving, they can run electric energy for distances up to 64 km ( 40 miles) a day. Lithium ion battery is then recharged overnight.
"If you own an apartment in Paris, charge your car at home can be a bit difficult. We need to find a way to charge a car battery regularly, so you can use the vehicle's internal combustion engine as little as possible, "Demant said.
